From Rome to the couture calendar
Valli was born in Rome in 1966 and worked at Roberto Capucci, Fendi and Krizia before moving to Paris as creative director of Emanuel Ungaro from 1998 to 2004, per Wikipedia. He launched his own label in 2004 and showed his first ready-to-wear collection in Paris in 2005. In July 2011 he showed his first couture collection, and he is one of the few non-French designers admitted to the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. A 2019 capsule with H&M was his first menswear.
Nine years with the Pinaults
Artémis took a minority stake in 2017 and moved to majority control in 2021, Wikipedia records, citing Reuters and WWD. The reversal came in May 2026. WWD’s Miles Socha reported on May 20 that Valli had agreed to acquire full ownership. The Fashion Law describes it as part of a broader effort by Artémis to streamline its investments and reduce debt, and places it after Artémis’s January 2026 sale of a 29% stake in Puma to Anta Sports for €1.5 billion. Neither side disclosed what Valli paid.

What founders can take from it
- Your investor’s balance sheet can be your opening. The buyback came when the investor, not the brand, needed to change course.
- Control given up can be bought back. Valli ceded a majority in 2021 and regained it five years later.
- Selling to family capital is not the same as selling forever. Holding companies reshuffle; founders who stay close to the brand can be first in line when they do.
