Simon Porte Jacquemus Sold 5% of Jacquemus. He Kept Control.

He started the label at 20 under his mother's maiden name. Seventeen years later he has let three outside investors in, bought one of them back out, and in 2026 sold a slice for himself rather than for the company.

Simon Porte Jacquemus — Jacquemus

Most investments in a fashion house put money into the company. The one Jacquemus took in March 2026 put money into Simon Porte Jacquemus. Sandbridge Capital bought 5% of the brand, and the shares came from the founder’s own holding, The Fashion Law reports. No new capital went into the business, and he keeps the majority.

A label named for his mother

Jacquemus was born in Salon-de-Provence in 1990 and started the label at 20, under his mother’s maiden name, per Wikipedia. He built it without a fashion-house apprenticeship: in 2010 he had friends wear his clothes into shops during Vogue’s Fashion Night Out in Paris, and by 2012 he was showing at Paris Fashion Week. The brand now has its own stores on Avenue Montaigne in Paris, in SoHo in New York and on New Bond Street in London.

Three investors, one bought back

The ownership history shows a founder deciding carefully who gets in, and on what terms.

Timeline of Jacquemus ownership: label started in 2009, Puig takes 10% around 2021 for a beauty venture, Jacquemus buys it back after the plan is dropped, L'Oréal invests in February 2025, Sandbridge buys 5% from the founder in March 2026

Around 2021 Puig took a 10% stake to build a beauty line. The plan was abandoned and Jacquemus bought the stake back, WWD reported, as cited by Wikipedia. In February 2025 L’Oréal invested instead, again tied to beauty; The Fashion Law puts its stake at about 10% and reports a cosmetics line planned for 2027. Separately, WWD reported in January 2025 that Céline North America president Sarah Benady would become chief executive.

Then came Sandbridge. Because the 5% was the founder’s, this was a secondary sale: Jacquemus turned part of his paper wealth into money while keeping control of the company. Neither side disclosed the price, so the deal says nothing public about what the brand is worth.

What founders can take from it

  • A secondary sale pays the founder, not the company. It lets a founder take money off the table without diluting control, as long as the stake stays small.
  • Strategic partners can be unwound. Puig came in for beauty and left when the plan changed; L’Oréal came in for the same reason later.
  • Keep the majority and choose the minority. Each outside holder here has a specific job: beauty for L’Oréal, a financial investor for Sandbridge.

Sourcing: the March 23, 2026 Sandbridge stake, its secondary nature, the founder’s continuing majority, L’Oréal’s roughly 10% and the 2027 cosmetics plan are per The Fashion Law’s 2026 fashion and luxury deal timeline. Biography, the 2010 Fashion Night Out and 2012 Paris Fashion Week, stores, Puig’s stake and buyback (citing WWD, October 30, 2024), L’Oréal’s February 2025 investment (citing Vogue Business) and the CEO appointment reports (citing WWD, January 2025) are per Wikipedia’s Jacquemus article.
